SUGGESTIONS FOR TOURISTS
It has recently been noted that French car rental agencies won’t rent cars to customers wishing to travel to Lithuania. They think that here the cars will be stolen or attacked enroute by bandits. This is total nonsense. Perhaps the French don’t differentiate Lithuania from Belorussia? Lithuania and Kaunas are no more dangerous than Warsaw, Paris or Vienna. But there are a few things that must be stressed:
1. avoid shady characters who try to stop you on the street, tell you sob stories and ask for money.
2. behave civilized is public places: don’t harass the girls or you might get your ears boxed; don’t abuse the rules of public behavior or the police could arrest you.
3. don’t forget that on the steets of Kaunas, drivers like to race each other and are always in a hurry.
4. be careful riding a bike on the street. Drivers are not used to this mode of transportation.
5. call a cab by phone: you’ll pay a great deal less for the services. If you get into a cab on the street or at the airport, the fare will be much greater.
