Where is beer born
In the spring of 2005, the oldest Lithuanian beer brewery, “Švyturys”, began to invite the city’s guests and residents of Klaipėda for an introduction to the Lithuanian history of brewing beer. Along with the Klaipėda tourist information center, the brewery began to arrange special excursions and beer tasting. Specially prepared guides lead the tours. They will explain how beer was drunk from ancient Egyptian times to how the first beer was made in the Klaipėda area. Especially for these tours, the interior of the beer brewery was renewed with exhibits and a movie about beer brewing and its history was made-up. After having become acquainted with the history of beer brewing, the trip ends with tasting during which time 4 different types of “Švyturys” are offered. In this hour and a half tour, all adults are allowed to participate. The tour through the beer brewery and beer tasting with snacks costs 50 Lt. Tours can be reserved at Klaipėda Cultural and Tourist Information Center (8-46) 412186.
